Alice was ordained as Deacon in 1985 in the Diocese of Western NC. She served as Deacon at St. David’s, Cullowhee. During her over thirty years of ministry, Alice reached out to persons who were hurting in body, mind, or spirit, offering spiritual counseling, prayer, and guidance. She was the co-founder of several agencies in Western NC that worked with those in need.

Alice loved Lake Logan, often referring to it as a “thin place” where one could feel the Presence. To Alice, Lake Logan was a sacred place where one could feel renewed and refreshed after spending time with God in prayer and meditation.

Alice moved on to the next life on December 22, 2016. At the request of her life partner the remaining money in her Deacon’s Discretionary Fund at St. David’s was turned over to the Diocese to begin a scholarship at Lake Logan.

The scholarship will pay for a day and night’s stay at Lake Logan for persons who are suffering the loss of a loved one, loss of a job, attempting to make a life-changing decision, or to any individual who has hit a “rough patch” and needs a quiet place to pray and meditate. In honor of and in memory of Alice and her life’s work, this scholarship will make Lake Logan available to anyone in need who would otherwise be precluded from experiencing this place that was so dear to Alice’s heart.

Persons who wish to receive a scholarship may do so by contacting their Parish rector. The request will be relayed to the Bishop’s Office. Lake Logan staff will contact the individual to arrange a mutually agreeable date.
