Cindy Walton
Oil and Cold Wax

Walton has developed highly personalized techniques that translate and transform nature and iconography. As a result, her pictures, whether abstract or figurative, are transformative interpretations rather than literal renderings. She is particularly expert in the use of extremely demanding cold wax methods and is highly respected as a teacher of the medium.

Through writings and bold marks traveling in and out of the layers of oil and cold wax, Walton will teach participants how she captures action, energy, and quiet musings of nature in her paintings. The surfaces are layered with paint to create depth and texture. As the layers are built, Cindy incises the surface with sharp-edged tools and large sticks of oil paint.

Karen Weihs
Palette Knife Approach to Oil Painting

Using mostly palette knives and particular brushes, Weihs applies pigment in lush impasto layers interspersed with thin glazes that enrich colors and result in canvases that glow with mysterious light and form. The vague forms and evocative spaces in her paintings become magnets that draw audiences into the mystery of creation by way of human imagination.

In this workshop, Karen reveals her innovative and intuitive pairing technique that is, to quickly create imaginary landscapes defined by ethereal atmosphere and palpable textures.  Karen helps her students strive for the big breakthroughs when one finally leans to let go of outcomes to trust in the moment of their creative intuition.
