Healthy and Holy

  • Lake Logan Conference Center 25 Wormy Chestnut Lane Canton, NC, 28716 United States (map)

Lake Logan is the perfect setting to realize the image of God in ourselves, our bodies, and our relationships at Healthy and Holy, a retreat led by Dr. Gus Vickery and Rosie Mulford.

Attendees to Healthy and Holy can expect to

  • Understand the power of integrating spiritual principles into our concept of health

  • Learn the simple, time tested, essential practices that support their best health

  • Better understand what causes chronic weight gain and how to sustainably restore healthy weight without dieting

  • Understand the true causes of chronic diseases and how they can be reversed

  • Walk away with practical, easy-to-implement, action steps that will improve their health and help them to feel good.

  • Understand the “truth” of health- that our bodies are designed well and designed for health. Becoming authentically healthy does not have to be hard. It just takes the right understanding and the right plan.

In addition, participants will learn to use yoga as a powerful practice that enhances mind-body integration. It gives the gift of a calm mind, even in the midst of chaos, by teaching you to let go and bring awareness to every moment. The biggest benefits come from the deeper understanding of yoga’s essence: the union of body, mind, and spirit. This practice ultimately returns us to our one and only true essential spiritual nature - that of the Divine.

This weekend we will

  • learn how to listen to God’s revelation and guidance praying with our entire being

  • look at the principles of yoga as a path in which to understand this human experience, realizing that we are Divine Beings first

  • use conscious breathing, movement, and attention to the physical postures, in order to cultivate a state of body-centered restful awareness.

  • use the physical postures to mimic life off the mat so that we gain tools for living

All retreat participants will receive a free copy of Dr. Vickery’s book, Authentic Health.

Dr. Gus Vickery is a board-certified family physician, speaker, and author of Authentic Health (May 2018, MJ Publishing). He founded Vickery Family Medicine in 2005 which has grown to multiple medical providers serving in 3 locations including The Clinic at Biltmore, an innovative direct to employer clinic for The Biltmore Company. Vickery Family Medicine has received numerous awards for customer service and quality.

Dr. Vickery also studied health care delivery and founded Synergy Health Solutions, an innovative direct to consumer organization helping improve access and reduce cost while providing effective care. In addition, Dr. Vickery developed a holistic health curriculum that teaches people how to experience their best health regardless of their current state of health. He is also an expert on chronic obesity and how to sustainably reverse chronic weight gain.

These resources led to the formation of Health Shepherds, an online health resource. He speaks to organizations, audiences and book clubs around the country, committed to the cause of helping people gain resources to access their best health.

Rosie Mulford took her first yoga class in 1974 from Eve Diskin, then the President of the American Society of Yoga, in Coconut Grove, Florida. Back then, there were no yoga mats and the "studio" was on the grass overlooking Biscayne Bay. She enjoyed years of practicing yoga combined with dancing ballet and running. As an adult, she practiced under the guidance of Jimmy Barkan for ten years in Fort Lauderdale. She has enjoyed teaching at Asheville Yoga Center since she moved here in 2005. Rosie tries to mimic the challenges in life by reproducing them on the mat. This offers students the opportunity to practice in a safe environment and gain the tools to handle the stresses of every day life helping us to learn how to spread the love and compassion no matter what obstacles come our way.
